I've experienced two problems in using my new 17" Powerbook and I'm
looking for some help - PLEASE!

Spec: OSX 10.2.8 Alcatel SpeedTouch modem but no other peripherals.

1. Unpredictable and irregular crashes
Symptom: the screen shows a progressive transparent "greying" from the
top to the bottom and a box tells me that I need to re-start the
machine by pressing and holding the power button for a few seconds.
The same information is repeated in several languages including
Japanese.
There are no regular trigger actions that cause the problem - it also
happened overnight when the machine was left switched on (but not
connected to any network). I have tried removing the battery and
replacing it. There is no information in the crash log.

2. Console error reports
I get numerous console error reports of the flavour:
Nov 25 20:16:32 X-XXs-Computer WindowServer[215]: Reserved range
exhausted. (0xbbfa4000 to 0xbc4e1000 goes out of bounds)
There are no crashes associated with these reports but they happen
about 20 times per hour when I am online.

My hunch is that there is a hardware fault responsible for (1). Is
there any solution to (2)? Will an upgrade to 10.3 tidy things up?
