drive problems / smallish laptop hard drive for sale cheap?

So I just installed a 5300cs motherboard in my trusty old 190cs, wiped the
drive and installed os9 and some Lucent wireless software, and all was right
with the world. Then I installed a 3Com driver for my ethernet pcmcia card,
and everything went south. Now I'm stuck with a 500 meg laptop hard drive
that comes out clean according to both Disk Warrior and DFA, but won't find
a system on it when you boot it on it's own - all it does is go
spin*click*spin*click* on startup.

So, as this is an original, 6+ year old hard drive, is anyone of an opinion
that it might be savable, or was just it's time, and I should replace it? If
the former, any suggestions on how to resurrect it? If the latter, might you
be able to offer a location for a cheap small drive?

I'm not looking for a monster drive for this thing, as it's still just to be
a kicking-about-the-house Net-access machine (I already had web browser /
ftp / telnet / etc. software on it, with a few hundred meg to spare), and
possibly a GPS computer, now that it's ppc... and *possibly* an mp3 player,
if I happen across the right size drive :) But for now, 1 or 2 gigs is all
I'd really need, since I'll have to store the gps maps on the drive.

Man, you're into it deep here. :) I just aquired a 5300cs from a friend
who replaced it with a TIbook. So now I have a 190 and a 5300, ain't
life great?

So you ever have any luck with X on the G3? I have another possible tip
for you, if you haven't given up.

Nope, things aren't any better with the g3. OS X still runs, but no faster
or better than before.
