| Que CD-RW no longer supported??? I have a QPS Que! FireWire 24x10x40 CD-RW burner. It *used* to be supported by iTunes 2 (or was it 3?), and I could burn CDs from the Finder in 10.1.6, but now that I've upgraded to Jaguar (10.2.8) and iTunes 4, suddenly it seems that my drive is no longer supported by either iTunes or the Finder! Can this really be correct? Is there something wrong with my OS X installation? Does my burner need a firmware upgrade? Anybody know what's going on here? System: ----------- iBook 2000 (dual USB) OS X 10.2.8 iTunes 4.1 (52) DR-RW drive (as reported by Toast "Recorder Info")* ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Model: QPS RW-241040 Where: FireWire Firmware Version: U100 / MMC-3 Cache Size: 2 MB Special Features: Buffer Underrun Prevention *(Thank God Toast still works!) I have an older Que! Fire (8x4x32x) which worked fine in 10.2.6 and now seems to work only at have speed for burning (even in Toast 5.2.1). Something was changed in the way the system handles burner writing for the Que, but I have no idea what, or where to even look. I sent a bug report to Mac OSX feedback (http://www.apple.com/macosx/feedback/). However, I have seen no mention of whether this is fixed in panther or not. -- Any significantly advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. - Arthur C. Clarke |

It had various problems until I had a new board installed. Apparently, some of the earlier units (like mine)had some engineering problems. It works great, now, under both Jaguar and Panther. Check to see what controller and drive your unit contains and then check the Que website for update information. My problems were diagnosed by the good folks at El Gato when I reported some strange Toast-related behavior with 5.x. -- Spenser |

I've had the QPS now for going on 3 years, and it would probably cost me less (in terms of hassle) to get a new/faster burner. -- Any significantly advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. - Arthur C. I'll send a report too. Chip -- (note: email address munged -- there are no punctuation marks in the part preceding the "at" symbol) |
