Adobe Audition It is a Digital Audio Editor and went under the old name of
Cool Edit Pro. I am looking for a low cost Mac equivalent.

If you just need something affordable to do relatively straight-ahead
recording (etc), check out the shareware Sound Studio:

Adobe Audition (and Cool Edit Pro) has a ton of higher end features...
if you need those, there are lots of high-end recording applications for
Mac-- but be prepared to pay pro-level prices. See for example, Bias
Peak (www.bias-inc.com). There's a downloadable trial of Peak.

Apple is selling the audio-recording portion of its well-regarded Final
Cut Pro application on its own under the name Soundtrack:

I'd suggest you check out Amadeus II, Sound Studio, Jasmine, Cacophony
and Audacity (I've listed these in descending order of how I liked
them). Prices range from $30 to free, which seems reasonable to me.

Soundtrack is a beautiful thing, but it's not an audio editor. Or an
audio-recorder. It's a loop library/music generator.
