| Printing to Microsoft XP over a network Help I'm Running Mac OSX 10.3.1 I have a wireless network setup. Attached to a Windows XP machine I have an HP LaserJet 1000. I want to print from the Mac to the Laser jet. On the XP machine I have printer sharing turned on. On the MAC when I go into the printer setup.I have windows printing picked. I choose network neghborhood and I can see the printer name there. I select it. Everything seems setup correctly and the machines can see each other. But when I print from the MAC it act just as if it sent the job over. The document disepears from the MAC queue as if it had printed. But on the LaserJet nothing happens. What am I missing? Can someone direct me to a tutorial on how to make this work? Beyond the printing I have the Windows/MAC filesharing working fine. Regards, Wayne |

And network-smart drivers from the major manufacturers are rare... But there's an open source solution-- Gimp-print (http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php3) While it lists itself for Jaguar, it works fine w. Panther in my experience. Download both the main Gimp-print download and the Ghostscript download (at the same site)... when installed, it will add a long list of drivers for the various major manufacturers. I note, however, that the LJ 1000 is neither listed among the officially supported models nor among the 'not officially supported but reported to work with the listed driver' models... so some experimentation may be required-- and it may not work to your satisfaction. Good luck! |
