Mystery Noise...

About every ten minutes my iMac355 makes hard drive noise and all
functions stop for about ten -fifteen seconds. Cursor will move but
can't drag, open or close, type etc. Any audio/video stops also. Never
used to happen (three years).

Any ideas would be appreciated
A.T.

I would try, in this order, at least one good disk utilities program, a
re-install of the OS, a re-format of the HD followed by a re-install of the
OS, and lastly, a new HD. The usual caveats apply. Backup all your data,
multiple times if practical, don't attempt any of this if you don't know what
you are doing, and don't blame me if everything goes to hell.

This sounds almost like spyware. Try running MacScan from
http://macscan.securemac.com/ and see if it turns up any spyware.

If the problem continues, I'd suggest a clean reinstall of the
operating system or even a reformat.

Or like a drive doing thermal recalibration every ten minutes and
having trouble. If that's the case, it's a prelude to full
drive failure. Might be worth checking with the drive's mfgr.
