weird snow on iMac flat panel when wake from sleep?

Hi

My brand-new 1 GHz flat-panel iMac displays some weird snow when
waking from sleep.

http://www.xs4all.nl/~eur/PB090006.JPG

It lasts about a minute, diminishing slowly.
The longer the sleep period, the worse the snow. Above picture is from
a full night of sleep. But after 3 minutes sleep, some snow is
visible.

Has anyone seen this?

The helpdesk said: reboot. It is gone then, but if you wait a minute
it is gone too. After some minutes sleep, it's back.

If this were not a $$$ brand new computer, I would not mind, but it
is. An Apple, no less.

This iMac has been repaired once: the sound on the motherboard failed
after only two days :-(
The Apple-Certified repair shop swapped the motherboard which probably
removed the serial number from Apple Profiler.

My Mac-loving friends tell me me to grab it by the neck and throw it
through the window of the Apple store :-)
Trouble is, the Apple Store is virtual in Holland.

Groeten,
Diane Verbaan

Did it do this BEFORE the logic board swap? Video is built in on the logic
board, so you may have gotten a bad board in the repair.

Good question. No, it did not.

I can't imagine an Apple Certified Repair Center putting in a bad
motherboard, but I'll call them monday.

Does look like either bad video memory or a bad video cable connection.
Both could be the result of a logic board swap. Take it back, and
perhaps ask for another one, rather than another repair.

lycka till!

Bad parts get shipped all the time; they usually get caught by the tech,
though. In this case, the fault may be due to the computer being on and at
operating temperature. If just booted from cold, the tech might not have
seen the condition.
