| G3 Appsearch Error Microsoft Works OK ok, I know I should move into the 21st century, let's get that out of the way. However I am a creature of sloth and lethargy. That being said, here is the problem. My blue and white G3 has been experiencing problems. I think it is time to erase it and reinstall all the software. It is getting worse by the day. My major software need is Microsoft Works 4.0B. I have tons of files in Works and I do not feel that I want to go through and save each one as a Word file. I use System 8.6 on the machine. I have taken the floppys (for Works) and installed them onto a Zip Disk as the blue and white does not have a floppy drive. I successfully installed the Works onto another G3 I have, same operating system. When I went to test install it onto the blue and white I got the error "Errors have been detected during Appsearch". I rebooted and tried to no avail and then did it again with the extensions off. Also turned off Norton. Still the same error. Q: am I getting this error because the system is so stressed now; and will I be able to install the app after I erase the hard drive and reinstall the operating system? I did it when I bought the beast; and what is Appsearch? Any and all comments are welcomed and begged for!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please respond by email if you have a heart. Dave moi2@mindspring.com |

If you get Office, and Works is not installed, Office will take over the duty of loading your Works documents automatically. > I have taken the floppys (for Works) and installed them onto a Zip Disk > as the blue and white does not have a floppy drive. You cannot simply copy the contents of your Works installer floppies onto the Zip and expect the Installer to find the files it needs, because Microsoft, in their earlier wisdom, hard-coded the Installer to look at the Device Manager for disks (volumes), not file locations. If you make DiskCopy images of the Works installer floppies, copy these images to the Zip, then copy them to your new G3's hard drive and mount them so that they all appear on the desktop, *then* the Works Installer _should_ work. If this doesn't work, get back to me as I know of another way to fool the MS Installer.
