Panther is my first venture into OSX land and I am hoping to just drag
my OS9.2.2 sys, apps, and files into Panther from the external FW
drive. Or do I need to re-install 9.0>9.1>9.2>9.2.2---oh please, not
that.

No, you don't have to do that, but you DO have to be VERY SURE to
install the OS 9 drivers when you install Panther.

PS. There is an excellent book that will GREATLY ease your transition
into OS X called "The OS X Conversion Book" by Scott Kelby. Written
SPECIFICALLY for OS 9 users, going page-by-page, side-by-side
comparisons of how to do common things in 9 and how to do them in OS X.
