| Odd Problems have popped up -- Please help! Hello. I have heavy experience with Windows but I am a relativly new to the Mac OS. I bought an iBook in April and "made the switch." Everything has been working GREAT until recently -- #1. I can no longer get System Updates through preferences. Every time I try this option it gets about 3/4 of the way done and then tells me that it could not complete due to errors. (Updating this way worked in the past and it even previously popped up a nice little reminder when there were new updates, which is also gone now..) I know how to access the updates directly -- but I am curious why this utility has suddenly pooped out on me. #2. More troubling is that recently I have noticed that I can no longer coonnect to sites such as American Express or my eBay account -- and it seems to hang up as I try to log in (I assume because it is having trouble with the secure connections?) but this doesn't happen to ALL secure accounts (such as PayPal or my bank) -- I have NEVER had a problem with this on my mac in the past. I have not changed my way of connecting to the internet in any way and can reach the above mentioned websites from my PC. I have Safari and IE browsers on my mac and neither allow me to connect to those pages -- leading me to believe I have screwed up some internet settings somehow. (I was hoping to give up my PC all together but now I have to use it just to access various websites.. ) I have used the system utility tool to restore my permissions -- that didn't help. I have upgraded to OS X 2.8 and that didn't help. As a new mac user I am unsure what to try next and wonder if I am now forced to just start from scratch and rebuild my system -- which I would HATE to have to do! -- Any Ideas what I can try next? I would be VERY greatful for a nudge in the right direction -- (and hope that I can solve this and let my PC "Rest in Peace." Thank You! Terri |

You might try making a backup copy (in case deleting it causes unforseen errors and you want to restore things to how they are now) and then deleting the preferences file. > > #2. You could try removing any cookies from ebay, restarting your browser and see if logging back onto ebay fixes things. I have Safari and OS 10.2.8 and have no problem logging into My Ebay. > > I have used the system utility tool to restore my permissions -- that > didn't help.
