New 1Ghz 12" PowerBook and Multiple Displays

I like the portability of the 12" PowerBook but the display is too small to
stare at for too long. I would like to run it with an external monitor that
sits behind and above the laptop, so when I move my mouse up past the 12"
PowerBook screen it will go to the monitor behind and above it.

Does anyone know if this is possible, or can I only anchor the external
monitor to the left or right of the 12" PowerBook?

No, I haven't bought the PowerBook yet.

Thanks in advanced for your comments.

- Matt

It is possible. You can arrange the 2 displays anyway you like. One left,
one right, or one up and one down, or vice versa.

Greetings,

Eveline.,

I have used a system that was set up that way. The larger secondary
monitor sat on a shelf above the monitor bearing the menu bar. I don't
recommend it. Overshooting the menu bar with the mouse is an unpleasant
and unwelcome possibility. Having a fixed menu bar at the top edge of the
desktop is one of the usability features that puts the Mac well ahead of
Windows, in my opinion.

That's why you can also put the menu bar on the secondary screen.

Re: New 1Ghz 12" PowerBook and Multiple Displays

Thanks for the advice, both of you.

Are you saying I can make the external monitor the primary monitor and the
laptop screen the secondary, ie menu bar and dock on external monitor and
whatever I drag there on the laptop screen?

Thanks Again!

Yes, that's right.

Greetings,

Eveline.

Exactly. You should be able to designate which is the 'primary' screen, and
whichever is set to primary should have the pull-down menu bar.
