Easy question? .bin file?

I downloaded a old version of Netscape that is supposed to work on my
OS (7.6.1) it came in a .bin file. How can I install this .bin file?
And if you say to use “Stuffit Archive” how do you install
that program?????

If I double click on anything it just tries to open it in a test
editor?!?!?

I’m new to the Mac thing so bear with me.

Thank you!

Stuffit expander is free http://www.stuffit.com/cgi-bin/stuff...standardmacexp

Once you download it just drop the file icon on it and it will uncompress it.

Ah yes, but how does one open the free download if one doesn't have a working
version of Stuffit in the first place? It will do the OP no good to download
another .bin or even a .sit or .hqx installer file of Stuffit if they don't
already have a working Stuffit installed. And if they have the working
version installed, they don't need to download Stuffit, do they? Somehow,
they need to get a uncompressed, or a self-decompressing (.sea) version of
Stuffit onto their 7.6.1 machine.

I used to see lots of .sea (self extracting compressed files) around, what
ever happened to these? Does anyone know how these were made? A Stuffit
installer compressed into a .sea file would be perfect for this OP.

Unless the OP already has Stuffit on the 7.6.1 machine, in which case
dragging any .bin file and dropping it onto the Stuffit application file
should expand the .bin file.

1. Go to aladdinsys.com.
2. Locate a copy of the FREE Stuffit Expander that will work with your
system.
3. Download it.
4. Drag the .bin file onto Stuffit Expander.
5. If that doesn't work, email me and I'll email you a copy or some
similar arrangement. My real email address is at the bottom of this
message.

If you're new to Macs (congrats, btw), you are really shortchanging
yourself by using a system that predates the Clinton administration.
Today's Macs running OS X bear little resemblance ... kind of like the
difference between Win95 and 2000Pro in terms of capabilities and ease
of use.

I'd suggest that if you want to learn Macs, you should at least get one
capable of running OS X. Such machines start at around $400 (used iMac)
and go up from there.

Re: Easy question? .bin file?

Thank you all for the help.

No offence but I dont want a mac I just got this one from a High
school for $10 and figured my kids could use some learning software on
it. I respect the power of the Mac but I'm a gamer and lots of games
do not support Mac. and Macs are realy expensive. for $400 I can
assemble a helluva PC.
