| Help with a new iPod I just got my gf a new iPod for her birthday. We started installing it on my PC but then halfway through we decided to stop because she wanted to install it on her G3 Mac. Should we reformat this thing? I want this in a Mac format but can this be done on a PC? I'm thinking it cannot be done. |

If you want it to be Mac, it has to be formatted on the Mac, and vice-versa. Brian |

| Re: Help with a new iPod Also......let's say we fully installed it on my PC, but then we go to her Mac and try to run it as if it were the first time we ever laid hands on it. Would the Mac reformat the iPod (it doesn't matter if we lose files)? |

Would the Mac reformat the iPod (it doesn't matter if we >lose files)? No... Macs can read PC-formatted disks-- and that's what the iPod is, a hard disk. It can work with a PC-formatted iPod, though file saving/reading is a bit slower. (Still quite usable). Both in music-player mode, and as an external Firewire drive. You CAN format it as a Mac drive (on the Mac) if you choose... It doesn't work in reverse, since PCs can't read Mac-formatted disks without add-on software. With the add-on software, however, it's usable. |
