| Linux or OSX Server? I'll be getting a HP all-in-one printer soon, and I've been thinking about setting up a file server that will also serve as a printer server. We have a PC running on XP, PB g4 that are accessing the wireless network. We also have a Mac G3 that is not used right now, it needs to have a wireless card and set up to access the network (right now it's running on os 9). What I'd like to do also, is to set up CVS (so I can learn how to run it, and do some programming), and use it as a backup for essential files. I'm trying to decide whether to go for a linux-based system or use OS X, Panther when it comes out. I've heard that Panther is supposed to run well on G3 computers (I haven't installed Jaguar on G3 because I heard it requires a good amount of ram and G3 run slow on it). What would be the minimum setup needed, from the PC perspective for Linux, or for Mac, from the OSX perspective? I'd prefer to go with OSX ( because I'm familiar with it). If so, how do I enable the WinXP pc to access the server? Lola |
