I agree, it does sound strange. My guess would be you need some part of that
previous registry to use the older points. The relationship there is
additive, and I suppose it possible that your current setup actually is the
source of the original problem (and that app install only triggered it)
Personally, I would be better safe than sorry, backup in prep of a fail, and
turn off restore to blank it, and kind of go from there. If something is
fragile, you don't want to depend on system restore. You need data backup.
