I Googled "autofill grayed out" and found this.

"The Google Toolbar's "autofill" button is enabled when you visit a page
that has fields autofill can fill. Otherwise, the button in the Toolbar
appears gray. We're aware that the "autofill" button may not always be
active when fields are highlighted, and we're currently investigating. We
appreciate your patience."
