Microsoft HD audio & Realtek HD audio

I just installed Vista Ultimate 64 bit. I have an Asus motherboard with
Realtek audio internal sound. When I run the setup for the Realtek drivers
everything installs smoothly but then it says I need to restart my computer.
After I restart and boot back in to Windows, Vista recognizes the Realtek
driver isn't digitally signed and automatically installs the Microsoft HD
audio driver - no prompts, no questions asked. After that is "successfully
installed", I have NO sound. Device manager shows "Digital Output Device
(SPDIF)" as working properly, however this is only for coaxial SPDIF output,
therefore I can't use my speakers or the front headphone jack. What gives?

Is there a way to install a different Microsoft driver or get a copy of a
digitally signed Realtek one? Thanks!!
