First, install this optional update (select the appropriate language
resource) and configure according to KB917730 (see below):

Next, Explorer > Tools > Folder Options > View tab > Search for Network
Folders and Printers automatically > tick.
If WinXP Pro installed, perform the following step in addition.
Start > Run: GPEDIT.MSC > Computer Configuration > Administrative
Tools > System > Logon > Wait for the network at logon and restart >
activate.
