If the ONM application came preinstalled on you phone or it is installed
from the desktop version of OneNote, it should be the same thing, so the
message about installing over the same version shouldn't matter.

The "attention required" message - does it appear when you're trying to
install the ONM software, when you're trying to use the ONM software, or
trying to sync ONM with the desktop via WMDC? Is the message on the WMDC
or the device?

Typically that message appears during sync. You should be able to click on
the message in ActiveSync on the device to get the details about the error,
including an error code which will start with 0x8. If you post that code,
we can get you closer to a solution.
