Give us an idea of what you mean by slow:

Start up time - BIOS to Account screen:
Log in to Desktop:

Are multiple users logged in doing multi-tasking or is this just affecting
single log on sessions?

Definitions you asked for:
Discreet graphics - dedicated video card that is not shared with system
memory such an nVidia Geforce 8500 GT
On Board Graphics - your video memory is dependent upon a certain amount
system memory that is allocated
