I'd get the trial of Acronis True Image and try to make an image to a
USB drive. Boot from the recovery CD. You can then mount the image and
see what you can drag off it. Of course, you'll need a working PC with
CD burner to do this.

PS. not sure whether chkdsk /r might help you?
