Still not connected according to the status icons, or not connected
according to Activesync itself? I don't pretend to know by what
method AS stays connected for Push e-mail to work, but my GPRS/EDGE
indicator can be off (no connection indicated) yet AS still says
Exchange is connected.

You might search the xda-developers site for registry tweaks to keep
GPRS connected, but I don't know any off the top of my head, sorry.
