It's already capable. Most, if not all, 3G phones have Enhanced GPRS
(EDGE.)
However, many EDGE-capable phones give no visible indicator whether
they're connected at GPRS or EDGE speed- they simply use the fastest
connection available. The Treo falls in this category- even when
it's connected at EDGE, it displays GPRS.
