I feel the pain but that happened to my HP 2610 as well until HP came out
Vista driver for it (but still required a few tweaks).

Rant: 12 years after the introduction of Plug and Play, we still can't make
simple things like this as smoothly as possible. Software still blames
hardware, and vice versa, and we are still living in DOS era as far as for
the plug & play concept goes.

Sorry but you have little alternatives other than following John Barnes's
advise.

Yes, it is a Lexmark Z23.

How come it is correctly recognized in Device Manager as a Z23-Z33 (series)
Printer though not functioning through Printer Setup??

In order to be recognized as the correct printer there surely must be a
compatible driver, or not?
