I had the same problem with some devices like the HTC Touch (Win Mobile 6.0)
I tried to connect yesterday
Here's how it worked out for me:
1. Install Device center 6.1, I believe there is even an update on that one
too.
2. Go to Settings on the HTC.
3. Select USB
4. Disable advanced networking
5. connect the USB cable to a true USB 2.0 port -some older PC's still have
lots of 1.1 ports
6. Vista is going to take quite some time for connecting and wil install two
drivers
7. In the end you wil see a succes message -see the JPG-
BTW I did I touch the device center yet!!!
