| Problem with IP addresses on a Compaq TC1000 with XP Pro I've been running an 802.11b & g Wireless LAN for some months now running on a Draytek ADSL router, a friend is having problems with his Compaq Tablet PC - running XP pro - on his wireless network, I offered to try it on mine, same problem. It used to work a few months ago at his house, but sadly no longer will it connect to the WLAN.
I run a private 192.168.1.1X address scheme with the DHCP address as 192.168.1.1, The router has up to 25 IP addresses to allocate starting from 192.168.1.11 however the Tablet PC can't seem to shake off an IP address 169.254.115.89 shown in the wireless network connection status. I can't repair the IP address in this window either, it Fails to renew the IP address. It can't see my DHCP server address which is 192.168.1.1. I tried to diable the card and release the ip address with ipconfig /release too. No luck.
I've upgraded the driver for the WLAN card and the XP OS from the HP web site using a USB memory stick.
I've even tried a direct 10/100 LAN connection to the Draytek ADSL router from the Tablet PC and the same IP address is nailed in there somewhere....
The WLAN WEP key is correct (and all in the right case), I broadcast SSID, and the adapter sees the SSID, it is my preferred network and it is unchecked to automatically connect to non preferred networks.
I can ping the 169 address that the machine has, I can also ping 127.0.0.1 address too
I have poured over previous posts, and I'm stuck as to what to try next, can anyone advise please?
