| tabtip.exe crash when started Running XP Tablet Edition on an Acer C110 --
I get component failure errors in sequence when first using tabtip.exe after booting:
AppName: tabtip.exe AppVer: 1.7.2600.2663 ModName: ntdll.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180 Offset: 00010370
AppName: tabtip.exe AppVer: 1.7.2600.2663 ModName: kernel32.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.3119 Offset: 00012a5b
In each case, the input panel will not start afterward, so it is basically useless (glad there is a keyboard on this model).
A possible related event: After installing the July 10 updates from Microsoft, one of the updates failed, but it was related to .NET framework 1.1. and I was following MS's 3rd attempt's instructions to remove all .NET framework and reinstall, however .NET still won't fully update, this time it is KB930494, which tries and tries to run, but goes full 100% (user, not system) cpu for hours and must be forced down as it ignores the "cancel". While doing all the .NET framework reload, I lost the tabtip.exe function as described above. I am willing to totally remove all .NET from the computer (.NET framework 1.1, 2.0) in order to get tabtip.exe back.
I have the two dump files from the tabtip failures which are reported to MS's bottomless pit of failure reports.
Before anyone asks, Yes, I did do a system restore back to prior to July 10 when the TIP was working, but that did not fix it.
Also noted: the keyboard that appears on the Windows user login screen appears functional, but for a while, it was a blank window. The keys are back and operational now. I'm not sure how that particular window is placed there. |
