| Re: wireless routers and vista First off, Linksys tech support is the last place I would ever want to
contact for tech support. I've talked and exchanged e-mails with them
several times and those exchanges never resulted in anything meaningful.
I keep hearing about wireless routers that are incompatible with Vista and I
don't understand why. As long as the routers adhere to the 802.11b or
802.11g standard, they should work with any computer that adheres to those
standards as well. NOTE: Pretty much every wireless router and computer is
at least 802.11b compatible.
That being said, I have Vista loaded on a Dell Latitude D610 and have been
able to access every wireless router or access point that I've come
across--Cisco, Linksys, Zoom, and others. I haven't looked into Vista
wireless incompatibility issues because I haven't had any, and I don't see
why there should be unless you had some non-standard setup.
Anyway, I think the issue could be your laptop's wireless configuration and
since you claim to be "dumb as a board" about these things, it might be
worth it to pay your local IT guru a few bucks to come over and look at the
issue. If the issue is in deed with your laptop, then getting a new router
would not resolve it anyway.

My new laptop, loaded with Vista Home Premium, can not work to the Lynksys
router, G2? I believe. In speaking with Lynksys there are a number of
wirless routers that are not compatable with Vista and they are responding
with drivers to resolve the issues. However, they told me my model was not
having a driver prepared. Hence, I am looking for a new wireless router.
Of course, I am dumb as a board on these issues and not only do I not know
what router to buy, I do not know if i have to replace the gizmo on my desk
top to be sync with the new wireless router I intend to buy.
If any one can respond with make, model of wireless, comment on the wireless
gizmo on the desk top, it would be appreciated. |
