Well for some reason, for as long as I've had IE7 and used it's RSS, it has been this way for me in XP SP2. I've even attached a screenshot of my task settings, where by default it's checked to stop after 72 hours.

Cannot reproduce. I might reboot my WinXP SP2 machines twice a month: My
RSS Feeds are checked without fail every 4 hours, exactly as I've configured
it.
