Re: UNBELIEVABLE! Have lost all my data--held hostage for $$$

Thank you DanS. I came here with a chip on my shoulder.
I also admitted my innocence of not knowing that what they -say- is not what
you get, even in an advanced, mass-market universal testing phase closure.
Indeed, I was out of my depth. And even now, with the clean install of only
Home Basic, I have issues that will require coddling. Like....sound. There
is no sound other than Windows' sounds, which, as before blast at full volume
each time the computer is booted, and cannot be shut off and kept off except
by turning off the speakers. This is just like RC1 was. I'll expect no
success then, from Vista. And I'll get what I expect, per usual, per my
loser-signature file.

However, you've given me some more hopes to work from. I learn that Vista
is miserable for backing up itself or files. It's a loser OS. I stuck
myself. Fine prints were not enough to dissuade a gullible fool from
stepping into the computing world's Greatest Boondoggle Ever. (I have been
reading Ed Bott lately, too much--or rather I did not read his words soon
enough). I thought I was along for a grand adventure.

What a ride! What a forum. It's like being a Democrat in a Republican tea
party. There are a few other Dems and a number of moderate Republicans quite
equinanimous. And there are The President's Men---the Nixonites! And they
do not suffer fools like me lightly. Send me off to 'Nam, they do! (ha ha)
"Go frag yourself now" they say. Well! This is a new era of operation
systems. The "Advisors" of the interlopers such as myself can only send me
off to Baghdad. Some system this Vista is. I should'a not stepped into
the pile. Microsoft soft sold me.

Meanwhile, party on O' defenders of the Faith. Bill's butt fills some
bills here for sure.

---
However, not yours, sir. Thank you. Thank you. Goodbye all for now. I've
made my quota of new friends for the we..mo..ye...remainder of my "life".
Glub! and cheers.

Nothing ever seems to work out of the box as promised.
Vista continues the tradition of "expect another disappointment"
