| Acer TravelMate Tablet PC AutoDim Tip I have read several reviews and complaints about the way the TravelMate auto dims the screen when running on the battery. Attempts to adjust the brightness to the highest setting still doesn't bring it up to the plugged in setting. I agree that this is very annoying and makes it much more difficult to see.
However, I found that, when booting the Tablet, you can press F2 to enter the BIOS menu (you have to be quick on the draw before the option goes away.)
From the "Information" screen, use the right-arrow to select the "Main" screen.
Then, use the down-arrow to highlight "Auto Dim". Press F5 (or F6) to change the setting from Enabled to Disabled.
Press F10, then hit the Enter key to save the changes. The tablet will then reboot.
Note: Keep in mind that you are changing BIOS settings. Only change the Auto Dim setting. Changing anything else MAY disable your computer. Change any settings in BIOS at your own risk.
Another Note: I think this goes without saying but I'm going to say it anyway, this will decrease operating time from your battery. The purpose of Auto Dim is to conserve battery life. But for me, it's an even trade now that I can actually read the screen.
Yet Another Note: Keep in mind that you, like me, probably increased the brightness on your display for "battery" mode. So, when you first unplug the power cord from the tablet, your display will actually get brighter! At first, I just knew I had "broke" something. So, don't forget to change your display settings and decrease your brightness.
Hope this helps (and gets picked up on Google for others searching for a way to change this setting.)
