You certainly didn't need to crosspost to all those XP newsgroups.
Vista, like XP can partition a drive during the installation process. Also
it has more capability than XP after Vista is installed for partitioning
including shrinking a drive, creating an extended partition, and expanding a
drive, but there are limitations to it. For example to add free space to a
volume that free space has to reside to the right of that volume, and Vista
has no means to move that free space or to move a volume.
Acronis Disk Director Suite 10 works fine in Vista, as does BootIT NG from
Terabyte Unlimited.
Here is a list of Vista specific newsgroups.
microsoft.public.windows.vista.administration_acco unts_password
microsoft.public.windows.vista.file_management
microsoft.public.windows.vista.games
microsoft.public.windows.vista.general
microsoft.public.windows.vista.hardware_assessment
microsoft.public.windows.vista.hardware_devices
microsoft.public.windows.vista.installation_setup
microsoft.public.windows.vista.mail
microsoft.public.windows.vista.music_pictures_vide o
microsoft.public.windows.vista.networking_sharing
microsoft.public.windows.vista.performance_mainten ance
microsoft.public.windows.vista.print_fax_scan
microsoft.public.windows.vista.security
installation_setup or the general newsgroup would have been good places for
this question.
