I have the same issue, however installing the RealTek HD Audio drivers did not fix the issue.

Before and after installing the windows update to fix the user32.dll issue, my audio would stop working. I could not access the mixer and my taskbar would change to 'classic' view. The start menu remained untouched, but the taskbar would look like a pre XP task bar and go from one layer to two.
