In conversational threads bottom posting seems to be the accepted norm so
that someone joining the thread halfway through can read through the whole
from the post he joined on.

However in help groups top posting is quite usual and of course either
method is actually a matter of personal choice.

One could argue that bottom posting without trimming of the original
message is very wasteful of internet resources, as each message contains the
sum of the one before.
