| Twice Lucky Teacher Hello everyone!
I'm a teacher of the Talented and Gifted on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. For a couple of years, I have been using a Dell D600 laptop. I was pretty happy with it, until a few video-editing chores brought it's 256 MB of RAM to it's knees. My school division gave me a Gateway M285 Tablet PC with a gig of RAM, and that worked fabulously. It's a great computer, but too heavy for my needs. Once a week I jump into a small airplane to teach on Tangier Island in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay. I have to take all of my materials with me, and I have had to make some tough choices because of the extra weight of the Gateway. It weighs something like 7 pounds, and takes up a huge amount of my backpack space. After explaining my dilemma, I was given the opportunity to "test drive" a Samsung Q1 UMPC for the county. I love it. It has become my most favored teaching tool. The Gateway still pulls duty as a classroom computer (and we use it a LOT), but the Q1 has taken over as my primary workhorse. It does everything I need it to. I'll be posting some of the best and worst things about both machines in the future. I am looking forward to contributing in the forums. Take care, everyone!
