Re: Windows Update : Error 8024400A (Build 5728)

I wrote Microsoft about the issue but before they responded I loaded
5744 but here is what they suggested
Now let's focus on the Windows Update issue.

The issue can be caused by corrupt Windows Update components or
third-party software.

I suggest trying the following steps to troubleshoot the issue.

Step 1 Register Windows Update Components
===========
1. Click Start, click All Programs and click Accessories.
2. Right-click Command Prompt and click Run as administrator.
3. Type the following command and press Enter after each roll. You are
expected to receive a successful conformation after running each
command:

REGSVR32 MSXML3.DLL
REGSVR32 WUAPI.DLL
REGSVR32 WUAUENG.DLL
REGSVR32 WUPS2.DLL
REGSVR32 WUPS.DLL
REGSVR32 JSCRIPT.DLL
REGSVR32 SOFTPUB.DLL

Step 2 Clean Boot
===========
Let's disable all startup items and third party services when booting.
This method will help us determine if this issue is caused by a loading
program or service. Please perform the following steps:

a. Click the Start menu and type "msconfig" in the open box to start
the System Configuration Utility.
b. Click the Services tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box
and click Disable All (if it is not gray).
c. Click the Startup tab, click Disable All and click OK.

Then, restart your computer. When the "System Configuration Utility"
window appears, please check the "Don't show this message or launch the
System Configuration Utility when Windows starts" box and click OK.

Note: Temporarily disabling the Startup Group only prevents the startup
programs from loading at startup. This will not affect the system or
other programs. We may still manually run these programs later.
