Can you please provide a quote for the extended main battery as well as the 512 memory upgrade?
I purchased the tr3000 with 384 meg ram and the piggyback battery. Maybe the problem you described applied to me as both of my batteries are now dead.
If you wish you can have the 256 chip in the unit.
I can do the upgrades myself, just need the parts.

If anyone is interested, the CDW website has dc power adaptors for about $28 on the outlet (main page, left side about half way down).
Look for Itronix in the vendors search bar.
