Thinkpad X41 with Docking station problems I am having some trouble with my new computer – the Thinkpad X41 Tablet PC.
With the computer in the docking station, while I am using MS Word, and sometimes Lotus Notes, the keyboard and mouse do some very unusual things:
When I pause typing, the computer will start to type a random character multiple times – usually until I hit another key (e.g. “444444444444.....”). The unusual thing here, is that sometimes the repeating key is one I did not even touch.
Also, sometimes it sometimes goes into all uppercase letters and you actually have to turn on "Caps Lock" to get it to do lowercase.
Also, sometimes random keys simply do not work (I hit the key several times before it finally types the letter, same with shift, control, or alt.)
Lastly, the mouse will sometimes lock onto a position in the text, and select all text above and below that position. If this happens, there is no way to make it let go, you have to re-boot. Closing the application only, just does not work, you have to re-boot. This is especially annoying since the shut-down and re-start cycle on this computer is longer than any I have ever seen (about 10 minutes).
I have tried all of the usual stuff: taking the computer out of the docking station and re-inserting it, checking the cables, etc, etc. It should also be noted that the monitor, keyboard, and mouse are the same ones I used with my desktop computer with no problems, so it is probably not those items at fault. All components are IBM, and have been teseted on other computers and work fine.
Also, this problem occurs quite randomly. After I re-boot, it seems to work for a while then starts acting up. The interval ranges from a few minutes to a few hours, also with the problem severity also ranging widely. Someimes I can put up with it, but sometimes it gets so bad I have t re-boot (by the way, with this last sentence, it is starting the missed letter thing as I type this).
What can I do about this? |
