Thank you once again for your excellent advice.
I tried this on my laptop, but gave up when 3.8 didn't work - it tried to
convert the file but came up with an "unexpected data" error.
I got it working on my main PC, installing ActiveSync 3.5, then later
versions until my Axim X5 was recognised.
Version 3.7.1 worked! Along with Word 2000 the files now open with no
problems.
Thanks again for your help, without it I would have had to resort to taking
a picture of the Pocket PC screen!
