If you consider it another name for a "skin" does that help ? The
chrome is all the bits of the player that are just screen furniture
and (mostly) have no function other than looking nice and making it
look like a media player rather than a windows application.
What Zach means is the black portion of the player to the right of the
play/pause/fwd buttons, shows a small piece of text occasionally.
So look to the right of the buttons when you select all the items, and
for a second or two the total time will be shown there.
