I have the same issue with a Gateway M285-E. It also affects Outlook when I set Word as the email editor. The problem seemed to creep into the software. It was sparatic for the first week growing more frequent until it wouldn't work with Word at all after a month. I have Word 2003 as well. I'm considering reloading the software. Let me know if you find a fix!
