Re: The first step: Tablet PCs for teachers

This post is just a different position and not my opinion. This is what I overheard from a new teacher ...

Despite the rhetoric I hear and read, most teachers continue to work in isolation. In addition, the majority of new teachers quit within a few years and so some districts do not want to invest in the new teachers. Therefore, influencing the technology use in the classroom involves training the new teachers at the certification level rather than training the veteran teachers. Along this line, most new programs introduced in a school are controled by the veteran teachers and the most likely mentors would be veteran teachers looking for time out of the classroom or extra pay incentives and not necessarily the most qualified to mentor.

In my opinion, legislation is the fastest way to create change in the classroom. Instead of parents complaining about textbooks they should be demanding their school include Tablet PCs, UMPCs, Notebooks, and Desktops. A purpose of schooling is to help prepare young minds for entering our society and if this is the case then school employees are negligent for not pushing technology into the classroom.
