Tablet PC as Desktop Input and Secondary monitor?

Ahah. Aright... I know this is gonna be a pretty ridiculous question, but I can get my hands on a pretty cheap Tablet PC. I do graphic design and this Tablet would be perfect. Problem is... it's gonna be outta date in about a year. So, in attempt to milk my investment completely dry, I wonder...

...Is it possible to remove and/or rewire the Tablet PC screen in a way that I can hook it up to my Desktop PC?

I know some of you might think, "why the hell don't you just buy a tablet from Wacom? Ya crazy bastid." Well, that's a pretty solid idea except... their tablets at 12" cost $500 without a screen. This tablet PC costs $500, with a screen. And the Wacom Screen+Tablet... is $3000. That's worth more than my car! (Sad but true.)

Sounds pretty desperate, I know. But I'm a starving artist who happens to have a little extra spending cash(aka: I got a job). I'm completely willing to turn this into a project n' get my hands dirty.

If you guys have any ideas it'd be awesome to here em'.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
