I'm assuming the G5 is running some version of OS X and I'm assuming
you've got sharing set up correctly since it worked with XP. I'm also
assuming that you set up network sharing in Vista but it just isn't
working. I just went through this with not being able to even see my
MacBook from Vista. This will make it all better:

Start>Run>secpol.msc [enter]

Click on "Local Policies">"Security Options"

Navigate to the policy "Network Security: LAN Manager authentication
level" and double-click it to get its Properties. By default Windows
Vista sets the policy to "NTVLM2 responses only". Use the drop-down
arrow to change this to "LM and NTLM – use NTLMV2 session security if
negotiated".
