The only real answer is "it depends" : It depends on the type/genres
of the content, your listening equipment, as well as how you encoded
it and which settings and encoders you used.

If your soundcard is a standard home kit, your speakers are crummy PC
speakers and so on, I'd be surprised if you could qualitatively tell
the difference.

Often, higher bitrates (eg 192kbps MP3 vs 160kbps MP3) will sound
identical, so that's where your saving might come in.
