Is compassion not supported by Windows?

If you can't be bothered to put out a little extra to lend a
hand to someone who's obviously distraught then can't you at least refrain
from criticism which is itself more annoying than the original and
admittedly poorly constructed plea?

Isn't part of good tech support the ability to cut through the
fog of frustration, the predatory shadows of sloppy software, and the
concealing clouds of crappy hardware, and to remove the offending thorns
of malperformance like a geekish Androcles ministering to a virtual lion?

For shame! You have forgotten the most important goal,
which is first to do no harm. If you cannot or will not help then
I ask that you have the grace to refrain from ridicule, a small harm
to be sure but harm for all that. Remember that no tech is an island,
entire unto herself, and that every blue screen diminishes me as though
it were my own. Therefore ask not for whom the core dumps. It dumps for thee.

(with apologies to John Donne)
