The date and time was Thursday, July 09, 2009 2:20:14 PM, and on a whim,

Hi Richard,

Do you have an iPod? If not, remove all the iTunes junk. Google search
for autoruns. Install it and go through and uncheck the items related
to it. If you don't have an iPod you don't need any of the junk.
Reboot and if everything works well after a week, go back into Autoruns
and right click on the disabled items and select Delete. Every time you
update iTunes you'll have to do it again.

At that point I'd suggest a different player. I still use an old
version of Winamp that works fine for my audio/video needs.
