Re: Can't run Windows Update

[Crosspost to Windows Update newsgroup]

Please state your full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3) and IE version.

1. Is Automatic Updates enabled?

2. Start | Run | (type) services.msc | OK

Is Automatic Updates and Cryptographic Services Started & set to Automatic?
If not, can you make it so, reboot, and find it the way you left it?

Is Background Intelligent Transfer Service Started & set to Manual? If not,
can you make it so, reboot, and find it the way you left it?

3. What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your
subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?
What third-party firewall (if any)?

4. Has a Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on this machine
(e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought it)?
