Why not just drag the ones you want to where you want to see them?
Alternatively rename them so they are easier to navigate to.
Also, if you had activated the Windows Search assist in IE8
you might find that you could find important links in Favorites subdirectories
by typing unique enough prefixes (not necessarily just first word prefixes).

Are we to infer from your choice of that article that your OS is W2K? ; }

Otherwise I think you can find that Vista users in particular have
complained about this symptom and have then found various workarounds
by dropping some of their Vista-specific security features.

In any case, I suspect that this is just a good demonstration of how
unreliable and quirky the Personalized Favorites was in the first place
and why it was removed from IE8. ; )
