I think I've probably used every version of Live Search from the first one.
In my experience, the software version has little to do with finding
anything, since the lookups are all server-based. The server seems to have
a mind of its own when it comes to parsing addresses. Usually they work,
sometimes they don't. I upgraded to "bing" last night, and my address
worked first try this morning, but I had to put the full USA address-
address, city, state, zip. "100 Main Street" alone hasn't worked for me in
well over a year (it used to!) Now it has to be "100 Main Street, Anytown,
ST, 12345" for me to get a hit, (and even then it's hit or miss!)
An alternate method that's worked for me when the server was acting up, is
to use the built-in reverse phone lookup. If I know the phone number of the
person I'm findind, I enter that instead, and usually get a result. It's
very frustrating, however, right after the program says "couldn't find any
'13 Meadow Lane' near your location" to enter a phone number and instantly
get "John Smith, 13 Meadow Lane"! I've also had better luck searching by
contact. After failing to get a hit for an address, I've entered the same
address as a contact, tap and hold on the contact, select "Find on Map," and
get a hit from the very same address the program couldn't find a minute ago!
So, give it a try later and see if it's working, and if not, and you really
wan't to revert, unmunge my email address and drop me a line- I still have
the last couple of Win Live Search .cab files I downloaded directly to my
device, but I honestly don't think it'll help. |
